Ladies be Good!!

Last night's 4-8 hold'em game at the Oasis Casino foreshadowed the type of poker players in town for Super-Bowl Sunday. Young, loose, gamble-it-up-sports fanatics with celebratory spirits trying for a nice score. Heavy drinking and loud, boastful talking characterized the three tables in progress.

My usual tight-aggressive game suffered early on in the session, as I took four relatively bad-beats with draw-outs on the river. It was a game where patience was critical to success and temptation to enter pots with weak draws was high. During the span of one hour, I didn't see a flop until pocket queens showed up in my hand on the button. A middle position player raised and I re-raised and seven players called. The flop came Qd-6c-8c, givng me a set of queens. There was a bet and a raise before me and I re-raised with six callers. Wow! The turn came 8h, giving me a nut full house. Another bet, raise and my re-raise, with four callers. The river turned up a 3c showing a possible flush draw. My full house was the winner unless someone had pocket eights, in which case I would have won a $2000 bad beat jackpot. There was a bet, a fold, a raise and a re-raise before it got to me. I re-raised and was re-raised by the player to my immediate left, who was called by two players. I re-raised and was all-in at that point. Everyone called. I won the showdown and a nice $250 pot against a nut flush, two pair and three-of-a-kind.

Two hands later, I once again drew pocket queens, flopped 3 cards to a straight and filled it on the turn and won a nice pot. When my button came up, the queens showed up in my hand again! The board filled a broadway straight for me and I beat three kings for a healthy pot. The ladies were very kind to me last evening. I wish I was as lucky in love as I was in cards!!
