Tip Toeing Through The Minefield

"The truth is – the cards played themselves". -- James Vogl (poker champion)

The truth is – the cards played themselves. It’s no (challenge) to pick up aces and find someone with kings and double up with a huge stack against one of the other chip leaders. Often, we attribute skill to a win when luck has played a major role in our success. Such was the case in the Virgin River No-limit hild'em tournament last night. Bill, a good tournament player (and a professional dealer), came over the top of me all-in with pocket Aces against my Jack-Ten offsuit. because I was very short-stacked (kind of like my old girlfriend :-) , I called, which was a gamble (not a very intelligent one at that). The flop was 9-8-7 to fill my straight, and I doubled up to continue playing with some breathing room. I went on to make the final table, win some money and finish the tournament in sixth place. I was lucky....."The cards played themselves"! Skill is important in poker, but I'd rather be lucky than good as the old saying goes. Skill helps you hang around long enough to get lucky. It's negotiating the minefield to avoid getting your legs blown off before you reach the other side. I've managed to save my legs for two weeks now!
