Super Bowl Sunday

Three full 4-8 tables were running at the Oasis poker room, during Super Bowl Sunday. There were five dealers, Mark, Tiger, Donny, Rooster and Mike, as well as the boss Bobby D. working the event. Because the room shares the Sports book space, it was loud and noisy, with gamblers and football fans glued to the tvs for the big event. Cigar aromas permeated the air while bettors waited in line to place last minute proposition bets at the gaming windows.

The poker games were good, and table #1 sat several known hyper-aggressive players. Not Least among them was Nicky Femia, my friend, a short Italian player, who reputedly runs-over any game he's involved in. Fortunately, I was seated at table #2, the must-move table, to begin my session. I love playing with the aggressive guys, but monetary fluctuations can be extreme and I wanted to start out at a slower pace. My table would allow me to see more flops and build up a small cushion before moving to the tougher table.. Sure enough, I tripled my buy-in in about an hour, before I had to move. I took my new seat at the main game and noticed that Nicky had a mountain of chips stacked in front of him. He grinned at me and said in his broken dialect "Coach, I'ma hava un rush"!! As usual he'd been hitting his draws and creating havoc in the game. Clearly I'd have to adjust my game to compete here. I'd been playing loose and seeing most flops from any position without being raised pre-flop. Now I was forced to tighten up, play premium hands and pay closer attention to my position.
