"Poker is a beautiful game. It's not pretty like chess, or graceful like football, but it's a lot like life. Sometimes ugly, sometimes beautiful, and never beyond the grasp of luck. It's got plenty of bad in it, but if you pay attention, you'll learn a lot about yourself playing this game"... Henry Wasserman
When you think its going great, it turns sour. Last nights'partner's game in the Oasis Open Omaha 8/ Holde'em tournament was a humbling experience. playing with Tony (Turbo), a professional dealer and a fine Omaha player, I found it difficult to hold up my end as the Hold'em player. It was a tough field, but not intimidating. For some reason, I changed my usual style of play into an unrecognizable form of bad poker. I played a very conservative, weak game that guaranteed failure. I didn't want to let my partner down, but that's exactly what happened, because I folded when I shouldn't have and called with questionable draws. It was a formula for disaster and we were elimninated early in the tournament. If I would've stuck to my game plan, I'm certain the results would've been different. The final straw was my calling to the River with pocket Jacks, when the board contained two overcards and we were knocked out. It was ugly. Tony, my partner, was gracious, but we both were disappointed. The moral of this tale is "Don't alter the style to conserve chips, if you want to win"!!
