WSOP Attempt Online
Tonight I qualified for a shot at the World series of poker online. The winner earns a $12,000 prize package that includes an entry fee into the WSOP. 320 players began the tourney on 32 tables. I turned on some soothing Nora Jones music, kicked back and began a night of great poker. As they moved me from table to table, I found myself in or near the chip lead for my respective tables most of the night. Players were eliminated at a rapid pace and I reached the 7th table in position #68, with a reasonable amount of chips. Then the inevitable happened and I shared the following in a message to my poker friend TV:
"I got knocked out at 68th out of 310 players. My F*&*^&&k*#ing computer kept disconnecting and then I lost my patience and played like shit!"Once my dialup started disconnecting, I lost my concentration and played poorly. My decision to go against a large stack all-in with an Ace (even though the board paired my Ace) was impulsive and unnecessary. I outplayed most of my opponents for over two hours, and then allowed a small computer tilt derail my careful play. I was disappointed with myself, because I strongly felt that I had a good chance to win or at least get much closer to the prize. I'm glad that I usually play live, in cardrooms, against people whom I can see the whites of their eyes. I might try a couple more of these qualifiers if I can solve the computer connections. It's a dream to play in the "big one" at the Horseshoe!
