A Small Experiment

In an effort to maximize my profits and minimize my losses in poker, I decided a few weeks ago to try to set specific limits on my play. For the past month, whenever I doubled my initial buy-in, I cashed out and ended my poker session for the day. Conversely, when I lost my inital buy-in, I also stoppped playing for the day. While this style of play is contrary to the thoughts of most poker writers, who advocate playing as long as the game is good; I wanted to experiment with my idea anyway. How has this worked out for me?

Surprisingly, this method is yielding excellent results. I'm showing a nice profit and I'm not fatigued from playing long, grinding, futile sessions. for the most part, I play 2-3 hours a day. I've been averaging $60.00 in profit and enjoying the comradery that one gets from a competitive session. Most poker players, including myself, are obsessive about poker, and like subconscious eaters, will play until gorged and return for second helpings.
While I don't always stick to my plan, it gives me some sensible guidelines for playing poker, and allows me to avoid compulsive behavior and fatigue. This system is a win-win situation!
