End of a Rush

Poker rushes are times during a game when a particular player wins several hands in a row and appears to be almost unbeatable. When you are on a rush, it is an exhilarating high, like being "king of the hill" in the children's game. a certain cockiness ensues and you feel invincible. But alas!, all good things must end. As swiftly as water is turned off at the spigot, a poker rush stops. The brakes are on and a normal state of waiting for decent cards resumes.

A recent five-day long poker rush screeched to a halt yesterday, and I found myself "stuck" about $100 after only playing one hand in two hours. The 7-2, 8-3, 9-4, Q-rag, 10-2, rag-rag anything appeared hand after hand, like wounded soldiers marching in an opium trance. Other players at the table took down pot after pot, while I drowsily waited for a playable hand. My interest waned, and finally I had enough and cashed in my remaining chips.
Sometimes when the party ends, you have to know enough to go home and refresh for the next one!
