Tournament Day
"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there!"...Will Rogers
The big Oasis Mexico-trip.no-limit hold'em tournament is today. Qualifiers are the winners of the past weekly tournaments throughout the year. There will be seven tables for a total of seventy players. Players will start with an amount of chips based on a point system from the number of wins by each person. For example. I have three wins so I'll receive $15,000 in tournament chips or $5000 for each past win. It'll be an exciting tournament, with the the ten final table players winning an all-expense paid trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and a stay in a massive beach villa. Also, the finalists will receive cash prizes for extra spending money. I'd love to win this trip, so I'm thinking about tournament strategy.
To be successful today, a combination of patience, aggressiveness, skill and luck is required. The players will be trying to survive and make it to the final table, so they're apt to be less aggressive with marginal holdings, and play premium cards. With the quality of players in this tournament, passive play will not get the job done. The delicate balance between aggression and passivity is difficult to perform. Getting cards, reading players, playing position and betting and raising with favorable odds, should yield a victory. I shall report the results later tonight!
